Wasabi is a rare and rewarding rhizome crop for gardeners who enjoy growing something truly special. Best known for its fresh, fiery flavour, real wasabi has a far more complex taste than the common substitutes found in tubes and jars. The plants enjoy cool, shaded conditions and make an attractive addition to damp garden beds, pots, or sheltered spaces. Harvest the rhizomes once mature and grate fresh for sushi, noodles, seafood, dressings, and Japanese-inspired dishes. A unique edible plant for adventurous gardeners and food lovers alike.

Growing Information
How to Sow
Plant wasabi rhizomes in a cool, shaded, sheltered position with rich, moist soil. Set the rhizome partly into the soil with the growing crown sitting just above the surface, taking care not to bury it too deeply. Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged, and protect plants from hot sun, drying winds, and extreme heat. Wasabi is slow growing, so allow the plant to establish gradually before harvesting mature rhizomes.
