Asian Sour Leaf Hibiscus is fabulous! Unaltered since it was first exported to Asia from its African home, this perennial plant is appreciated for tons of reasons. The leaves can be eaten raw or cooked as a rather more flavourful version of spinach, and the bright red flower calyxes are used to make a refreshing herbal tea or as a natural colourant. This shrub is a must for those seeking true heirlooms that haven't been changed through breeding since ancient times.
