If you like plants to grow just as nature intended, then this species-type vegetable is for you! Also known as Chilacayote in the South American countries where it naturally occurs, the whole plant is edible. However, it is mainly grown for its rounded green fruits which are best picked when about 10 to 15cm in diameter. In the Far East, it is used to make a vegetarian version of shark fin soup, but there are several other recipes to try!
