Padron peppers are a delicacy from Spain. You'll predictably get irregular teardrop shaped fruit about 5cm long. But there, predictability ends! These peppers range from nearly sweet to about half as hot as a typical jalapeno. So while it's not necessarily a culinary form of Russian Roulette, you might be in for a slightly hot surprise here and there. Ideally, these peppers should be eaten cooked, and if you want to avoid the potential for heat, pick them young.

  • Growing Information

    How to Sow

Growing peppers is easy, so direct sowing is usually fine, but for good control over your germination conditions, sowing in trays is usually a better bet. A light covering soil is all these seeds need. Then water well and only repeat when you see the soil surface starting to dry out.

    How to Harvest

As soon as your peppers look big enough to eat, you can start to harvest them. If you want red peppers, leave them on the vine until they colour up. Cut them off with a sharp pair of scissors, secateurs or a knife to avoid damage to the fruit or the plant.

I planted these seeds, following the instructions shown, even using a light box and heat mat. I did several batches but none struck. I was very disappointed.
