Looking for something unusual for your flower garden? Early Splendour Amaranth will be just the thing - except that it's leaves, rather than flowers, that you'll be admiring. The deep, coffee-brown foliage is part of the package, but new growth comes out brilliant red, retaining the bright colour for a considerable time, making the plant look like it's topped with red blooms. The blooms themselves are rather unexciting, but with colourful foliage like this to enjoy, you won't be complaining.

  • Growing Information

    How to Sow

Amaranth is generally sown as a summer annual, but if you live in areas that have cooler, shorter seasons, sow seeds indoors in the early spring and transplant outside after all danger of frost has passed. For direct sowing, it is best to sow in rows and then thin out to approximately 30cm apart. Seeds germinate with soil temperatures between 18-25C and plants will grow best in full sun.
