Growing Information
How to Sow
Sow lemongrass seeds indoors in early spring or outdoors once temperatures are consistently warm. Use a seed-raising mix and barely cover the seeds, as light aids germination. Keep soil warm (20–25°C) and moist. Germination takes 10–21 days. Once seedlings are 5–10 cm tall, transplant them to a sunny, well-drained position. Space plants 30–60 cm apart. Lemongrass thrives in rich soil and warm weather and is ideal for both garden beds and large pots.
How to Harvest
Harvest lemongrass by cutting mature stalks at the base when they’re at least 1–1.5 cm thick. Use a sharp knife or secateurs. Choose outer stalks and allow the inner ones to keep growing. Trim leaves and use the lower white portion in cooking. Harvest regularly to encourage new growth.
