The Red Leaf Japanese Maple is one of the worlds most popular bonsai tree varieties. Grown for it's beautiful shape and colour, the leaves on this plant go from a deep red in the spring, through to green in summer and then on to a golden brown colour in the autumn. Whilst this tree is quite frost tolerant, it does need to be protected from cold winds in the winter and in summer it needs to be well watered and kept largely out of the hot sun and away from hot winds as these will tend to burn the leaves.

The seeds for sale are collected from red leaf parents. Seedlings will exhibit the characteristics of the parents to varying degrees. They may be visually inspected and green leaved seedlings removed if desired. Seedlings grown inside fiberglass greenhouses may not exhibit the red leaves until grown in natural sunlight. Plant in a lightly shaded position in well composted soil.
Propagation
If left to grow naturally this tree will reach around 6 meters high and slightly less in width. The leaves of this tree make an amazing feature for any garden and the trunks and leaves look amazing at night when illuminated.
