In the Garden
With a rounded canopy and spreading branches, this species is grown as an ornamental and much loved for it’s profusion of beautiful flowers in spring. It also produces masses of small 2cm fruit that are delicious and can be eaten fresh or dried.
This species is native to most of Northern and Central Asia and will do very well in areas with cool winters. The tree has a liking for acidic soils but will grow adequately in most soils. Preferring full sun, the Crab Apple will also benefit from regular pruning, rewarding you with more flowers and fruit.
