In the Garden
A medium sized tree to 10m, the Japanese Hornbeam will grow a dense canopy in full sun or if grown in part shade, it will grow into an open form. This tree is great all year round with attractive folage through most of the year and attractive pendulous branches and patterned bark that give interest in the winter.
Propagation
Like most hornbeams, this species is fairly adaptable and can be grown successfully in all but the warmer tropical parts of Australia. It will prefer a well drained soil, but can also manage moderately sandy or clay soils. It will love a sunny position, but also grows well in part shade.
