In the Garden
A native to China, this species will grow well as a medium to large garden shrub in all regions of Australia except the tropics. Perfect in a pot as a specimen shrub or as a screen planting, the spectacular flowers make a great feature in a winter garden. The edible fruits aren’t tasty when eaten fresh, but make great jams and preserves.
Once established the species is quite drought tolerant. It can also be grown in full sun or part shade. For best flowering, this species needs to have some cold nights over winter. Prune after flowering.
