In the Garden
This tree is also known as the Hedge Maple and as the name suggests, its foliage forms densely on the tree and responds very well to hard pruning. Growing to about 8m in the wild, it can be kept to a much lower height with pruning making it an ideal shade tree or pot plant for the patio.
Unlike some of the other maples, this species will tolerate full sun well and is quite drought tolerant once established. It can be grown in sandy or clay soils as well as alkaline and acidic soils.
