Chaenomeles japonica, also known as the Japanese Quince is a fantastic small shrub with beautiful coloured pink, white and red flowers that turn into bright yellow, edible fruits in the autumn.
A deciduous shrub coming from the mountain woodland of Japan and China, Chaenomeles japonica grows to about 1 m in height. Commonly cultivated, these plants are favoured for their early flowering from July onwards in Australia. The blossoms appear on bare branches continuing after the plant gets its leaves. Like many deciduous fruiting plants, it will require some cold weather over the winter to stimulate flowering and fruiting
