In the Garden
In a garden landscape this tree is ideal as an accent plant or avenue planting, (particularly around larger buildings) It’s dense evergreen foliage is ideal for hedging and its scale like leaves lend a very fine texture to any setting.
A temperate plant native to Southern Europe, it will cope with frosts and is very drought tolerant. It does best in a rich well draining soil, but is versatile and will grow in clay, acidic and alkaline soils. It will develop its trademark, columnar form without encouragement.
