Growing to about 10m in the wild, Malus pumila is a popular landscaping tree, either as a feature or to give shade. This cultivar “Red Delicious” has a profusion of beautiful white/pink flowers in spring followed by deep red edible fruit in autumn.

Propagation

Preferring a moist, well draining soil, this species does not like being too dry and will need regular watering and feeding during the fruiting period to get the best results. If growing this species as a bonsai it is useful to strip the tree of fruit every few years to improve vigor and encourage new growth.
