In the Garden

In the garden, the Privet has traditionally been used as a hedging plant as it’s easily pruned into almost any shape. It can also be used as a large shrub to approximately 3m and is attractive to birds. Whilst it is deciduous in many cooler areas of Europe, in most parts of Australia, the tree will remain green all year producing small white flowers in summer followed by dark purple berries in Autumn.

Propagation

A moderately fast growing tree, the Common Privet will do best in full sun. It can grow well in almost any conditions and does very well in coastal areas.
