In the Garden
A very popular ornamental tree for parks and gardens, this small to medium sized tree will grow to about 3-5m tall and is also ideal for hedges. The leaves grow in two forms, juvenile needle-like leaves 5-10 mm long, and adult scale-leaves 1.5-30 mm long. Mature trees usually continue to bear some juvenile foliage, particularly on shaded shoots low in the crown. The blue-black berry-like cones grow to 7-12 mm in diameter, have a whitish waxy bloom, and contain 2-4 seeds; they mature in about 18 months.
Propagation
This is a tough tree and will grow in all soil types including clay. It is also very drought tolerant making it great for the Australian garden. Grow in full sun or part shade.
