In the Garden
Cornus kousa var. chinensis has pink to white bracts that make this lovely small tree a beautiful addition to any garden. Native to much of East Asia, it is a large, free-flowering deciduous shrub or small tree to 8m, with ovate leaves turning red and orange in autumn. It bears flower-heads with four ovate cream bracts 4-6cm long and deep pink, strawberry-like fruit. The bracts open creamy white, turning to a reddish pink.
Propagation
Dogwoods thrive in well-drained, relatively moist soils and prefers a sunny to lightly shaded position.
