Not all Mexican Chillis are super-hot - a relief to those who like a touch of spice with sweet overtones. This heirloom Mexican variety ripens to a shiny black, and although it's spicy, it doesn't earn any serious warnings for hotness. The rich flavour makes it a popular favourite for sauces, but you can also dry it and powder it to use as a spice. The elongated pods, similar to those of Cayenne peppers, are easy to process in the kitchen. You'll also love the colour - both in the garden and in your cookery.

  • Growing Information

    How to Sow

Growing peppers is easy, so direct sowing is usually fine, but for good control over your germination conditions, sowing in trays is usually a better bet. A light covering soil is all these seeds need. Then water well and only repeat when you see the soil surface starting to dry out.

    How to Harvest

As soon as your peppers look big enough to eat, you can start to harvest them. If you want red peppers, leave them on the vine until they colour up. Cut them off with a sharp pair of scissors, secateurs or a knife to avoid damage to the fruit or the plant.

Planted all 15 seeds and three plants came up. Germination rate was a litres low compared to other chillies i sowed in the same long pot.

A little difficult to start compared to Jalapeños(easiest), habaneros (medium genemination), Poblanos, and other chillies started.
