A conifer with very short needles, the Blue Spruce is a great tree for formal and informal upright bonsai styles as well as cascade and group planting. When pruning, pinch rather than trim the tips, and if you choose to wire it, exaggerate the bend as it does not set as well as most trees do.

  • Growing Information

    In The Garden

The lovely blue foliage on this species makes for a great specimen plant or dense hedge. A large tree, it is best planted in large gardens or parks unless it is clipped as topiary or hedge.

    Propagation

A tough tree with very deep roots, this tree is fairly drought tolerant and will grow in most soil types including clay soils. Well suited to either full sun or part shade the Blue Spruce will grow in all cool and temperate areas of Australia.
