Casuarina equisetifolia is an evergreen tree growing to 6–35 m tall. In the right conditions this tree will grow fast and give you good shade on a hot day. Known as the Coastal Sheoak this species produces some of the best fire wood in the world thanks to its ability to burn readily and make beautiful coals.
Propagation
Casuarina equisetifolia is a native of Queensland, the Northern Territory where it grows on the coastal fringe. The tree is also native to South East Asia where you find the most beautiful examples of this tree as a bonsai. It will grow in temperate areas and will manage very light frosts. This tree has many other great features as well. It grows very well in sandy soils making it a great wind break tree in warmer climates.
